Throughout my nursing career, I’ve always believed that care should be truly holistic – something that isn’t always easy to achieve within the constraints of the NHS. While working on a chemotherapy unit, I saw just how debilitating the side effects of treatment could be. These not only impacted people’s quality of life, but often affected their ability to continue with treatment.
It was during this time that I began working alongside several doctors trained in medical acupuncture. I saw first hand how acupuncture could ease side effects, improve wellbeing, and create space for more meaningful conversations about health and healing.
This experience inspired me to train with the
British Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS), and ultimately led me to co-found the Community Based Acupuncture Service (
CBAS) offering acupuncture to people affected by cancer.
Funded by the
Sussex Cancer Fund and delivered in partnership with the
Macmillan Horizon Centre, the service runs in Brighton and Eastbourne.
